The main objective of the present numerical study is to investigate the effect of the orientation of PCM container, as well as the use of fins, on the melting process in a double-pipe latent heat energy storage system. The system consists of an insulated outer square channel and a heated inner tube equipped with external fins, with the space between them filled with PCM. ]n the absence of fins, changing the container angle from 0° to 45° increases the total melting time of the system by about 16.67%. In contrast, adding fins to the inner tube at a container angle of 45° significantly reduces the total melting time (by 17.58%) compared to both the finless case and the horizontal orientation. In fact, the presence of fins at different rotation ratios not only increases the heat transfer surface area but also accelerates the melting process in the lower regions of the container, where melting is slower, while enhancing convective flows in these areas to provide more favorable conditions for phase change.
